THERAPY IN ORANGE COUNTY, LONG BEACH & ONLINE IN CALIFORNIA
You’re ready to get started!
Let’s look at how the logistics of therapy work so you know what to expect.
The Steps to Get Started
Select Therapist
Click here to find your therapist. Don’t worry if you don’t know which therapist to choose! There are filters to help you match with one or more therapists who fit your needs. Next, go to the therapist's bio and click on the link to schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
Alternatively, you can fill out this Questionnaire and we will pass on your request to a therapist who fits your needs.
Consultation
Meet with your therapist on Google Meet (or a phone call) to share a bit about what you’re looking for, ask questions, discuss logistics (scheduling, location, fee) and schedule your first appointment. If you don’t think it’s a good fit, that’s totally fine. We want you to find the right therapist for you!
Forms
Your therapist will email or text you a secure link to fill out intake paperwork online prior to the first session. You will also receive an email confirming the first appointment and giving details about the office location or a link for virtual sessions.
First Session
If you will be meeting at an SRP office, when you enter the waiting room, press the button (or flip the switch) next to the therapist’s name. People tell us that our offices are cozy and inviting. We like that, and we hope the setting helps you feel comfortable and safe.
In the first session, we look forward to understanding more about your current concerns. We know for most people the first session is a bit anxiety producing; we want to help you feel comfortable. In addition to hearing about your concerns, we’ll also go over some of the paperwork you completed, discuss the therapy process and help you understand our thought process and approach. We welcome all of your questions.
As therapy gets started, we'll help you understand the therapy process and help you know what to expect. We'll also ask for your feedback as we work collaboratively.
Therapy is a financial investment in your inner and relational life to give you the support, tools and insight you need to heal from the past and create a life you love.

Sliding Scale
Every SRP therapist has some sliding scale appointments. If you resonate with a therapist but think their rate may be out of your range, please ask! You can email the therapist directly or ask about it during a 15-minute consultation. Let them know of your interest and need. If they have availability, they will send you the SRP Sliding Scale Application to complete for consideration.
Insurance
SRP is not in-network with any health insurance providers/HMOs.
If you have a PPO insurance plan, some part of therapy may be reimbursed. This can range from almost full coverage to no coverage.
If you have a PPO, here are additional questions we encourage you to ask:
Do I have out-of-network “behavioral health” benefits?
If you want to see an Associate level therapist, do they accept MFTs or Associate PCCs?
What is my deductible for out-of-network providers and has it been met?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions they cover per calendar year?
What is the covered amount per session? (Often it is a percentage of a standard, Medicare regulated amount.)
Is approval required from my primary care physician?
Upon request, your therapist will provide you with a super bill to submit for reimbursement.
Cancellation Policy
SRP therapists hold a 24-hour cancellation policy.
If you need to reschedule or will miss a session, you need to give your therapist 24-hour (or more) advance notice. Otherwise you will be responsible for the session fee. If you give less than 24-hour notice, you will be charged for the session unless your therapist can offer you another appointment within two days of the original time.

On the Meet the Team page, you can filter for therapists who have weekend availability, or you can fill out a Questionnaire with more specifics about the days and hours you need.
-
Sessions are generally 50-minutes but sometimes we do 90-minute sessions, especially with couples or families. For how long you attend therapy depends upon your goals and needs. This is something to discuss with your therapist in the first few sessions.
-
When therapists are pre-licensed, they are either a second-year graduate student pursuing their Masters Degree to become a therapist or they have graduated from their Master’s program and are working on their 3000-hours needed in order to take their licensing exams in California. Pre-licensed therapists are under the supervision of licensed Marriage and Family Therapists who are trained and approved to supervise. The pre-licensed therapist reviews cases with a supervisor in order to receive helpful feedback and guidance in a group or individual supervision. Unless there is a crisis-related reason for a supervisor (and only the supervisor) to know a name, initials are used instead of names. A pre-licensed therapist may ask to video record a few sessions for their graduate school or supervisor to observe the therapist in a real session. You can always decline this request. Supervisors don’t sit in on sessions.
-
Yes! We have several therapists who regularly speak on a variety of topics. Email connect@soulrestorationproject.org for more information or visit the Ministry Partnership page if that applies to your need.
